1. Call for Proposals EXTENDED to April 1, 2010: Midwest Research to Practice Conference
MSU is proud to be hosting this conference next year, and we encourage all graduate students to consider submitting a proposal. Graduate students in K-12 administration who study professional development or teacher/leader capacity are especially relevant.

2.Henry Giroux at EMU

Eastern Michigan University’s College of Education and the Department of Teacher Education cordially invite your students and you to attend a public lecture delivered by Henry Giroux, Ph.D. as part of the John W. Porter Distinguished Lecture Series in Urban Education.

"Shattered Bonds: Youth in a Suspect Society" will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010 in Roosevelt Auditorium (EMU Main Campus).

Henry Giroux is a Professor of English and Cultural Studies and Global TV Network Chair in Communications at McMaster University. He is an American cultural critic, one of the founding theorists of critical pedagogy in the U.S, and is best known for his pioneering work in public pedagogy, cultural studies, youth studies, higher education, media studies, and critical theory. He has published more than 35 books and 300 academic articles.

3. Institute for Research on Teaching and Learning

Available Graduate Assistantship (50%) for the 2010-2011 academic year

The Institute for Research on Teaching and Learning (IRTL) has an open position for an advanced graduate student in the College of Education interested in research administration beginning Fall 2010. Job responsibilities include:

· Assist in the development of services for doctoral students who seek funding for research, dissertations, and practicums in the MSU College of Education (COE).
· Gather and announce information on external funding of interest to COE graduate students.
· Provide individualized consultation matching COE graduate students with external funding opportunities related to their research. Edit, review text, and provide budget consultation for graduate student proposals both internal to the university and external on local, state, and national levels.
· Coordinate IRTL-sponsored grant writing workshops, seminars, and symposiums for graduate students.
· Facilitate basic training in grant writing and budget development for graduate students.

Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Knowledge of Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Adobe, and ANGEL preferred. Continued support beyond the 2010-2011 academic year is possible depending on student performance and IRTL budget priorities. 4. EAD graduate students Benjamin Botwinski, Nancy Meddaugh, and Sheba Onchiri presented "Michigan Principals Fellowship and Michigan Coaches" at the Michigan Association of Professors of Educational Administration Educational Leadership Symposium on March 24th. MSU will be hosting the symposium next year, and we look forward to presenting more work from graduate students.
