Gary Solomon CEOj of PROACT Search has been retained by the Chicago Public School District (CPS) to assist with their search for building principals. CPS is one of the premier districts in the country, serving more than 400,000 students on over 600 campuses, operating with an annual general fund budget of approximately $4 billion dollars. The District is looking for all sorts of principals-- high school and elementary principals (Pre K-8), principals with successful turnaround experience, principals with a record of taking schools from good to great, principals with experience with bi lingual students, and principals with experience IB and AP programs.

3. Travel to England this Summer

A blended learning experience of face-to-face seminars with British educators at MSU, a 12-day study tour to the Southwest and other areas of England, meetings with administrators, faculty, and students tailored to your interests, and online and self-directed learning.
  • Gain three graduate-level credits at MSU for an international experience offered during the summer term and sponsored by the Department of Educational Administration, in collaboration with the University of Plymouth – England.
  • Focus on a comparative analysis of educational practice of schools, colleges, universities, and adult education programs, including leadership and administration, teaching, learning, curriculum, students, organizations, and policy.
  • Join with other master’s, doctoral and lifelong education students. Graduate students from related disciplines and other institutions are also welcome.
  • Experience British culture and customs that make the country and its educational practices distinctive.

4. Be a Change Agent in Graduate School, Your Professional Life, and Beyond: Tapping and Using Your Emotional Intelligence

In this highly interactive session, participants will take the five competencies associated with Emotional Intelligence and apply them to their own life in graduate school and in the professional workplace. You will also assess your own strengths and identify one area that you could improve to increase your own EQ! Participants will also be asked to think about the changes they are experiencing in life and discuss how being a “change agent” could positively be influenced by developing higher degrees of EI.

5. The third annual MSU mini-conference and showcase on instructional technology is set for Friday, February 19, 2010, starting at noon in Erickson Hall. The conference is sponsored by the MSU College of Engineering, the MSU College of Education, and the Office of Libraries, Computing and Technology.

This year's theme is "Using Google Apps in Teaching and Research."

The conference format, following lunch, will be to have a keynote speaker, to be followed in turn by poster-session type displays by faculty and staff. (The first floor of Erickson Hall is particularly well-adapted to this kind of presentation.) The subjects for the displays we hope are wide-ranging – from "how to" explanations of the features of one or more applications, to explanations on how you and/or your colleagues use Google apps currently for teaching and/or research. To participate, you needn't have anything flashy, or particularly well-developed, just an interest in sharing what you've learned with your colleagues. In the particularly non-flashy category, for example, I'm planning to show people how I engage the Google calendar for everyday use.

So please volunteer yourself, or suggest the name of a colleague who could be a poster session participant.
