1. 2011 UCEA Program Centers Graduate Student Fellowship (GSF)

Purpose: The UCEA GSF aims to provide research, mentoring and career development opportunities for an outstanding graduate student who is enrolled in an UCEA member educational leadership program and intends to enter the professoriate. The UCEA Program Center fellow will receive a stipend of $5,000.
Where: The fellow will be eligible to be in residence for six to eight weeks during the summer at one of the seven current UCEA programs centers**:
• UCEA Joint Program Center for the Study of the Superintendency and
District Governance
• UCEA Center for Educational Leadership and Social Justice
• UCEA Center for the Study of Leadership in Urban Schools
• UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE)
• The D. J. Willower UCEA Center for the Study of Leadership & Ethics
• UCEA Center for the Study of Academic Leadership
• UCEA Center for the Study of School Site Leadership

    • Contingent upon proposals from individual centers to host a student. A list of participating program centers and host universities will be available on the UCEA website during the first week of February, 2011.
Time Frame: The UCEA GSF is a six to eight week program that will commence
in June of 2011 and continue through the end of July 2011. This timeframe can be re-arranged for another time during calendar year 2010 if mutually agreed upon between the Program Center and fellow.
Student application deadline and process: Application materials from each student must include four statements of no more than 500 words each addressing the following:
• Describe your academic and personal experiences that you consider relevant to UCEA GSF fellowship
• Describe your short-range and long-range career goals
• Detail your research experience
• How does a summer fellowship at a UCEA program center align with your
pursuit of the professoriate?

2. Webinar: From CV to Resume: Developing Written Credentials for Postacademic Positions

4. CASID/GenCen Friday Forum Speaker Series
"MSU Strategic Partnerships: Building Relationships Around Gendered Violence Research in Turkey"

This presentation describes the results of my efforts to build strategic partnerships with gender scholars in Boğaziçi and Istanbul Universities between June 11-23, 2010. During this trip I met with several scholars at each university, attended lectures, spoke with students, and read English language publications from prominent feminists in Turkey, particularly those doing work on violence against women. I will describe my how I would recommend the Center for Gender in Global Context should proceed in building strategic partnerships with gender scholars at Boğaziçi and Istanbul Universities. I will also describe some of the research being conducted by feminist scholars at Boğaziçi and Istanbul Universities, and where possible collaboration opportunities might lie.


5. The MSU Technology Showcase 2011 will take place on Friday, February 25, 2011 in 133D&E Erickson Hall.

This is the fourth annual event in this series, and is sponsored by the Center for Engineering Education Research/College of Engineering, the College of Education, and the Office of Libraries, Computing, and Technology

How it works: We begin with lunch and a brief keynote statement. Participants who want to show their work then take up positions scattered about designated rooms at computer monitors on the first floor of Erickson Hall. Think poster sessions, but with laptop computers instead of physical posters. Bring your own laptop, and use the monitors provided in the rooms. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m., and the whole thing ends before 1:30 p.m.

This year's theme is to encourage as demonstrators anyone who wants to show a mobile application, or use of Google Apps, or other computer application they have developed, either for instruction or research.

We are just now in the set up phase for the event. If you are interested in being a presenter this year, please complete the web form for presenters on the home page of the Showcase Site.

In the past this has been a fun, and collegial event that provided opportunities for sharing ideas.
