EAD K-12 Course Considers the Concept of Organizational Performance in Schools using Literature from Other Professions
K-12 Independent Study EAD 890-019 Spring 2010 Faculty: Dr. Dwan Robinson This online independent study will consider the concept of organizational performance in schools using literature from other professions. We will apply concepts from the medical and business profession to school organizations. We will also examine this material in relation to research published in a study School Improvement by Design: Lessons from a Study of Comprehensive School Reform Programs completed by the Consortium for Policy Research in Education on design based school improvement.
The independent study will be offered for one or two credit hours in an online experience that will engage students through discussion boards and online live meetings. Students will have the option to take the course for one credit hour and read one book or for two credit hours and read two books. There will be one major assignment for each credit focused on the application of the literature to leadership approaches for successful school reform. The books considered for this study will be Better by Atul Gawande, and either Change by Design by Tim Brown or Good to Great by Jim Collins (including a companion monograph Good to Great for the Social Sectors).
